Symptoms involve a stabbing pain\/stiffness at the heel or sole of the foot. Pain is generally worse first thing in the morning and after exercise but not during it. Pain can also be triggered by long periods of standing or getting up from long periods of sitting<br><br><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fonts.gstatic.com\/s\/e\/notoemoji\/15.0\/1f45f\/32.png?w=580&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\ud83d\udc5f\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\">\u00a0Plantar\u00a0fasciitis\u00a0is a condition in which the plantar fascia is affected. The plantar fascia is a connective tissue that runs under the foot and serves the purpose of supporting the arch and acting as a shock absorber to weight bearing activities<br><br><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fonts.gstatic.com\/s\/e\/notoemoji\/15.0\/1f975\/32.png?w=580&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\ud83e\udd75\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\">\u00a0Plantar\u00a0fasciitis\u00a0occurs due to overload on the tissue, leading to degeneration and subsequent pain.\u00a0<br><br><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fonts.gstatic.com\/s\/e\/notoemoji\/15.0\/1f64b_1f3fc_200d_2642_fe0f\/32.png?w=580&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\ud83d\ude4b\ud83c\udffc\u200d\u2642\ufe0f\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\">\u00a0Those at greatest risk are individuals over the age of 40, athletic individuals [particularly runners], obese\/overweight individuals and those with structural foot issues [flat feet\/high arches\u2019]<br><br><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fonts.gstatic.com\/s\/e\/notoemoji\/15.0\/1f9b5_1f3fb\/32.png?w=580&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\ud83e\uddb5\ud83c\udffb\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\">\u00a0Treatment involves rest, ice, load management, medications and physical therapy. Physical therapy will primarily look at strengthening up the intrinsic and extrinsic muscles of the feet and lower leg.
